Japanese lights that add color to old Yamaga

"Yamaga Lantern Romance - Hundred Flowers, Hundred Colors" is one of the "Kyushu Winter Festivals of Lights" organized by six Kyushu prefectures, and the lanterns of the festival envelop the Buzen Kaido, which still retains the image of its prosperity as a post town and rice distribution center. In addition, Japanese umbrella lanterns and bamboo lanterns create a fantastical glow, and Yamaga umbrellas are said to have been the largest producer of Yamaga in western Japan from the Meiji period to the early Showa period, so much so that there is a local song that goes, "Yamaga lanterns may not have bones, but the bones are what make them so great." Why not take a stroll through this good old town enveloped in fantastic lights?

The Yamaga Lantern Dance, in which women in yukatas carry gold and silver lanterns on their heads and dance gracefully to the Yoheho-bushi song, is held at the Yachiyoza theater, which has been in operation since the Meiji era. The buildings, which still convey the characteristics of a kabuki theater, such as the ceiling advertisements, runway, and box seats, are also worth seeing. All Club Tourism include seats (ma seating in some cases). Before or after the performance, you can also enjoy a stroll along the quaint Buzen Kaido road.
