Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is one of the world's leading mountain tourist routes, running through the Northern Alps, a series of peaks with elevations of around 3,000 meters. Its total length is 37.2 km, with a maximum elevation difference of 1,975 meters. Almost the entire route is located within Chubu Sangaku National Park. Regular vehicles are not allowed on the Alpine Route, so transportation requires changing between six different types of vehicles, including highland buses, ropeways, cable cars, and trolley buses, each with its own unique characteristics.

We also recommend the "Snow Wall Valley," where you can feel the beauty and power of snow, "Kurobe Dam," where you can see the spectacular water discharge and the beautiful scenery of the Tateyama mountain range, as well as the scenic spot "Muro-do," which has many attractions, the large plateau "Midagahara," and the moving observation deck "Tateyama Ropeway," which offers a 360-degree panoramic view that connects Daikanbo and Kurobedaira.

Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route offers different ways to enjoy it depending on the season, and is attractive and recommended at any time of the year. In spring, you can take part Snow Wall Walk, where you can see the huge snow walls up close. In summer, you can enjoy the contrast between the remaining snow and the fresh greenery, as well as observing alpine plants and sightseeing water releases at Kurobe Dam. In autumn, you can enjoy the spectacular mountain foliage seen from an altitude of 3,000m.

Although you can enjoy a casual stroll, it is a 3,000m high plateau, so be sure to pay attention to the weather and dress appropriately for the season. The weather is changeable in the mountains, and even a little carelessness or lack of preparation can lead to injuries. Even on sunny days, be sure to prepare rain gear so you can deal with sudden changes in weather and temperature. The UV rays are strong, so it's a good idea to bring a hat and sunscreen.

Spring (Apr. to Jun.)
From Apr. to Jun., temperatures drop to as low as minus 5 to 10 degrees Celsius, and the walking trails around Murodo and Midagahara are covered in snow.
You will need waterproof trekking shoes or boots. Sunglasses are also essential as the glare from the snow is strong.

Summer season (Jul. to Aug.)
The temperature in Jul. and Aug. is around 10 to 20 degrees, making it a comfortable summer resort. Even if it is sunny and hot in the morning, it can suddenly get cold in the afternoon due to gas or evening showers. The sunlight in the mountains is stronger than you might think. It is best to wear clothes that do not expose much skin (and that are breathable).

Autumn season (Sep. to Oct.)
Sep. and Oct. are the season for autumn leaves. The temperature is around 10 degrees, and it often feels chilly.
In Oct., snow may begin to fall around Murodo. Thick long-sleeved wool shirts and fleece clothing are recommended.
