Yamakasa festivals change clothes between day and night

The Tobata Gion Mt. Daisen, along with Hakata Gion Yamakasa and the Kokura Gion Taiko, is known as one of the three major summer festivals in Fukuoka Prefecture, and is affectionately known as the "Lantern Mountain." It is said to have begun in the late Edo period, when villagers dedicated a Yamakasa as a token of gratitude for the end of an epidemic.
During the day, four Mt. Daisen floats carrying 12 large flags are paraded around the streets, and at night, the floats are transformed into gorgeous lantern-clad Mt. Daisen and the festival reaches its climax as the parade progresses to the chant of "Yoitosa, Yoitosa."
