Eisa! Eisa!
Ride on the rhythm of the undulating drums

Generally on the night of Jul. 15th of the lunar calendar, which is Obon (called Ukui in Okinawa) when ancestors are sent off, young men and women dance around the village.
Each household prays for good health, safety and prosperity for their families, and offers a memorial to the spirits of their ancestors, and the festival is basically the same as the Bon Odori festival on the mainland.

The spirits of ancestors who had descended to the earthly world were reluctant to return, so they were scared off by beating drums, sending them back to the other world. This is how Eisa, a chanting dance, was born.
