Gujo Dance: The Art of Dancing

It is counted among the "Three Greatest Bon Odori Dances in Japan," "Three Greatest Folk Songs in Japan (Gujo Bushi)," and "Three Greatest Nagashi Dances in Japan."

This is a long festival that is held every year for a total of 31 nights from mid Jul. to early Sep., but the most notable event is the Obon festival (all-night dancing) where people dance all night long from the evening of Aug. 13th to the early morning of the 16th.

It is said to have originated from the "Nenbutsu Dance" and "Furyu Dance" of the Middle Ages, and it is said that the form of Bon Odori was established with the encouragement of the lord of Gujo Domain.
There are 10 songs - "Kawasaki," "Harukoma," "Sanbyaku," "Yachiku," "Kocho Kawasaki," "Gengen Barabara," "Neko no Ko," "Sawagi," "Jinku," and "Matsuzaka" - and each corresponds to a different dance.
