The Shonan Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival is filled with gorgeous bamboo decorations.
Approximately 500 bamboo decorations will be displayed in the city center, and approximately 3,000 throughout the city, with approximately 90 gorgeous decorations being displayed at the main venue, Shonan Star Mall.
Hiratsuka, home to the Naval Explosives Factory, suffered a devastating blow in the massive air raids of 1945, with approximately 70% of the city center reduced to burnt ruins.
The first Tanabata Festival was held in Jul. 1951, after the post-war reconstruction, and was modelled on the Tanabata Festival in Sendai.
