夜空を彩る錦の七夕飾り

豪華な竹飾りが溢れる湘南ひらつか七夕まつり。
中心街には約500本、市内全域で約3,000本の竹飾りが掲出され、特にメイン会場である「湘南スターモール」には絢爛豪華な約90本の飾りが掲出されます。

平塚は海軍火薬廠があったことから昭和20年の大空襲で壊滅的打撃を受け、中心市街地の約70％が焼け野原になりました。
戦災復興後の昭和26年7月に、仙台の七夕まつりを模範とした、第1回七夕まつりが行われました。
