Komagatake Ropeway

This is Japan's first mountain ropeway, stretching to the so-called "Senjojiki Cirque" just below Mount Hoken (2,931m above sea level) in the Central Alps. It was completed in 1967 and reopened on Nov. 1, 1998. The elevation difference between Shirabidaira Station and Senjojiki Station is 950m, and the terminal station, Senjojiki Station, is at an elevation of 2,612m, both of which are the highest in Japan. It offers a panoramic view of the main peak of the Central Alps, Mt. Komagatake, the Southern Alps, Mount Mitake, Mount Norikura, and the Northern Alps, and is also famous as a treasure trove of alpine plants.

There's more! Introducing Japan's most stunning spots

Hakuba and Tsugaike Highlands

(Image)

The area around Hakuba Village and Otari Village in Nagano Prefecture is one of Japan's leading mountain resorts. In addition to outdoor facilities for families and spots where you can see Takayama plants, there are also Toyotomi hot springs, making it an area that can be enjoyed all year round.

Shiga Highlands

Shiga Kogen is an expansive natural landscape with 2,000-meter-class mountains, numerous lakes and marshes, virgin forests, alpine plants, and more. In particular, we recommend strolling and hiking around the 48 ponds, where cotton grass grows in abundance.

Mount Ibuki

Ibuki Mountain, the highest peak in Shiga Prefecture, has been selected as one of the "100 Famous Mountains" and the "New 100 Famous Flower Spots." The area around the summit, which can be reached by bus, is filled with Takayama plants, making it a great place to casually enjoy flower watching.

Kamikochi
