What is the Aomori Nebuta Festival?
The Aomori Nebuta Festival is a summer festival that takes place every year from Aug. 2nd to 7th in Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture.
It was designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan in 1980 and is known as one of the three major festivals Tohoku, attracting many tourists from all over the country.
Large, illuminated nebuta (lanterns) are placed on floats and paraded through the streets.
In addition to the impressive Nebuta floats, the shouts of "Rassera, rassera" by the dancers called "Haneto" also liven up the festival.

Parade of children's nebuta (approximately 10 floats Itinerary) and large nebuta (approximately 15 floats Itinerary)
Aug. 4-6
18:50~ (Leading Nebuta departs from Shinmachi Yanagimachi intersection)
Large Nebuta floats (approximately 20 floats Itinerary)
The results of the judging, which took place from Aug. 2nd to 5th, will be tallied and the Nebuta Grand Prize and other awards will be announced on Aug. 6th.

The 70th Aomori Fireworks Festival and Nebuta Sea Parade
The winning Nebuta will be paraded around Aomori Port and will mark the finale of the Nebuta Festival with fireworks.
*Four Nebuta floats Itinerary to be paraded on the sea.
Be sure to enjoy the fantastical Nebuta floats traveling back and forth over the sea and the large fireworks that light up the night sky of Michinoku's short summer.

Akita Kanto Festival (Akita Prefecture)
Location: Akita City
Event period: Aug. 3rd to 6th

This festival involves competing to see who can hang as many lanterns as possible from bamboo poles and balance them on their foreheads or waists. The light of the lanterns rises into the night sky, and a traditional ceremony is held to pray for a good rice harvest.
Sendai Tanabata Festival (Miyagi Prefecture)
Location: Sendai City
Event period: Aug. 6-8

Colorful and gorgeous Tanabata decorations are displayed throughout the city, and people make wishes based on the legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi. Tanabata decorations are collected from all over Japan.
Yamagata Hanagasa Festival (Yamagata Prefecture)
Location: Yamagata City
Event period: Aug. 5-7

The dancers dance to the rhythm of the "Hanagasa Ondo" song while holding flower-decorated hats. The festival is characterized by a lively and bright atmosphere, making it easy for spectators along the route to join in.
