What is the Aomori Nebuta Festival?
The Aomori Nebuta Festival is a summer festival that takes place every year from Aug. 2nd to 7th in Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture.
It was designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan in 1980 and is known as one of the three major festivals Tohoku, attracting many tourists from all over the country.
Large, illuminated nebuta (lanterns) are placed on floats and paraded through the streets.
In addition to the impressive Nebuta floats, the shouts of "Rassera, rassera" by the dancers called "Haneto" also liven up the festival.

Ask Nebuta artist Asako Kitamura! Highlights of Aomori Nebuta
In 2021, the Aomori Citizen Nebuta, sponsored by Club Tourism won the Gold Award!
The group has received consecutive awards, including the Tourism and Convention Association Chairman's Award in 2015, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman's Award in 2016, the Nebuta Grand Prize in 2017, the Mayor's Award in 2018, and the Governor's Award and Parade/Jumper Award in 2019.
This year too, I am putting my heart and soul into creating a Nebuta that will please everyone. Just like me, all the young Nebuta artists are passionate about this, so please come and join us at the Aomori Nebuta Festival.
