What are the Koshikijima Islands?

Located in the East China Sea, about 26km west of the mouth of the Kawauchi River in Satsumasendai City in northern Kagoshima, this scenic remote island is made up of the three islands of Kami-Koshikijima, Naka-Koshikijima, and Shimo-Koshikijima and has been designated a quasi-national park.
The area is blessed with unique natural scenery, including magnificent sea cliffs, a unique group of lakes and ponds, and Nagame Beach, which has been designated a national natural monument.
From mid-Jul. to late Aug., vibrant crimson flowers bloom all over the island. The Kanoko lily, native to Koshikijima, brightens up the island.
