Komyoji Temple

One of Kyoto's best places to see Momiji

Nishiyama Jodo sect Motoyama. The gently sloping "Momiji Sando" approach to the temple is lined with maple trees stretching out on both sides, creating a gorgeous crimson tunnel.
*If you are traveling by yourself, there is no parking lot available at Komyoji. Please use public transportation.

Arashiyama and Sagano

One of Kyoto most famous scenic spots, it is beautiful in every season. The cherry blossoms and Momiji are particularly beautiful, attracting many tourists. When you look at Arashiyama in autumn from Togetsukyo Bridge, it is completely covered in vivid colors, and the ripples on Kawamo add to the gorgeous scenery, captivating the viewer.

Sagano Trolley

A 7.3 kilometer long sightseeing train that runs along the Hozu River valley.

When you think of beautiful nature in Kyoto, you think of Sagano and Arashiyama. We recommend the view of Hotsu from the window of the trolley train! It's an indescribably beautiful view that combines ruggedness and grace! It's also nice that the train makes a short stop at the scenic spot along the way, about 25 minutes one way, so you can take your time to enjoy the view.

Eikando Temple

Yamadera

Ancient temples registered as World Heritage Sites

A historic temple founded in 774. It is also said to be the birthplace of tea.
It is home to the Choju Jinbutsu Giga painting (replicas), and is visited by tourists throughout the year.

Best time to see autumn Momiji: Early Nov. to early Dec.

Access: From JR Kyoto Station take the JR Bus Takao-Keihoku Line bound for "Toganoo" or "Shuzan" for about 55 minutes and get off at "Toganoo"

Kurama Temple

The vast mountain landscape is dotted with trees that change color in autumn, and while the Niomon Gate and approach to the shrine are beautiful at any time of the year, they are even more spectacular during the autumn foliage season.
Located on the slopes of Mount Kurama, the temple is accessible by cable car in some areas, but it is more suitable for those with good walking ability.

Daigoji Temple

A famous temple registered as a World Heritage Site

The most beautiful autumn foliage can be seen in the maple tunnel on the approach to the temple that passes through the Niomon Gate and the area around the pond where the Kannon Hall stands. The Sanboin Garden, designed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, is a must-see, with its beautiful harmony with the maples.

Toji Temple

A famous temple registered as a World Heritage Site

The scenery created by the five-story pagoda and the autumn foliage is breathtaking. It's a must-visit spot for fall colors. The area is also illuminated at night each year, offering a different and beautiful view compared to the daytime.
