What is Kumano Kodo?

Kumano Sanzan (Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine, Kumano Hayatama Taisha Shrine, Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine) are called "Kumano Kodo" (ancient pilgrimage routes).
It was visited by emperors and aristocrats in the Heian period (794-1185) and eventually spread to the common people, and the procession of travelers was called "Ants' Kumano Pilgrimage".
In 2004, it was registered as a World Heritage site as "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range," and its quiet space is attracting attention as a healing spot.

What are the Kumano Sanzan Sanzan?

The three shrines, Kumano Hongu Taisha, Kumano Hayatama Taisha, and Kumano Nachi Taisha, are called the "Kumano Sanzan."
Kumano Sanzan are located 20 to 40 km apart and are connected to each other by the Kumano Nakahechi trail.
Although the three shrines each have their own origins in nature worship, the gods of the three shrines are unified and enshrined together.
