Ise area

Surrounded by a long history and rich nature, this area is in front of the shrine gates of Ise Jingu Shrine and serves as the gateway to Ise-Shima National Park. After worship, you can enjoy the atmosphere of the Edo period by searching for souvenirs, eating and exploring the streets in Oharai-machi and Okage Yokocho.

During the Edo period, it is said that one-fifth of the total population visited Ise Shrine.
Its official name is "Jingu" and it is the head shrine of all Japanese shrines.

Many of the prefecture's gourmet foods and specialties are gathered in the town in front of the shrine.
During the Edo period, when visiting Ise was not as easy as it is today, the people of Ise, who treasured a spirit of gratitude (okagesama), gave this name to the hospitality they offered to visitors.

Futamigaura and Meoto Iwa Rocks

The name "Futami" comes from the fact that Yamatohime-no-Mikoto looked back twice at the beauty of the scenery. The two large rocks on the coast look as if they are a married couple, so they are also called Meoto Iwa (Couple Rocks). Also, be sure to check out Futamiokitama Shrine, which is said to grant blessings for matchmaking and marital harmony.

The most popular animal at this aquarium is the seal that can stick out its tongue. The aquarium is crowded with many parents and children as it allows you to see, touch, and feel many kinds of sea animals up close. Other popular animals waiting for you include walruses that are good at blowing kisses, penguins, and Asian small-clawed otters!

Toba area

This area is home to Toba Aquarium, one of the largest in Japan. There is no shortage of things to do here, from being soothed by the adorable appearance of dugongs and finless porpoises, to experiencing the charm of pearls at Mikimoto Pearl Island, to taking a ferry ride around Toba Bay.

The ferry takes about 55 minutes to travel from Toba Port, close to Jingu, to Irago on the Atsumi Peninsula in Aichi CIty. The view of Ise from the boat is spectacular.

Pearl Cultivation

When driving along the coast of Toba or Shima, you can often see pearl farming in action. Pearl farming began in the Taisho era, and with the emergence of Kokichi Mikimoto, the "world's pearl king," it has come to be widely recognized for its high level of technique and quality.

Toba Aquarium

The aquarium is divided into 12 themed zones. There are many marine animals such as dolphins and sea lions, and especially dugongs, along with African manatees, which are also sirenians, for a total of 12 species. This is a rare aquarium, the only one of its kind in the world.

This popular observation deck is located at the top of the 162-meter-high Hakoda Mt. Toba City It is the most spectacular spot on the Pearl Road, which connects Shima City and , and offers a 360° view. Below you can see the Rias coastline and the magnificent Taihei ocean.

In addition to the 125 shrines where gods reside, centered around the Geku and Naiku of Ise Jingu, Ishigami-san, a god who has long been worshiped by local female divers and who is said to grant at least one wish of women, is also popular among young women.

This area is home to Parque Spagna, a theme park that can be enjoyed by both adults and children.

Located in Nambu Mie City Shima, this is the largest Iriumi on Shima.

Oharaimachi - Jindai Mochi

Ise Jingu The town was called Oharai Town because Ise guests who came to visit the shrine were entertained by staying in their own Yashiki, playing Jinraku, purifying them, and giving them "o-fuda" (money given to them by the shrine).
The Kusamochi Zenzai (rice cake with sweet bean paste) served at the tea house Yamanaka in this town is exquisite. Why not try Kojiro mochi, a specialty of Ise that locals also visit to eat?
