Recommended gourmet foods you'll want to try when you go!
If you go to Hokkaido, you should definitely try the crab! Snow crab, red king crab, and hairy crab are known as the three major crabs. Hairy crab has delicate meat and is characterized by the creamy roe. Red king crab is the king of crabs! The sweetness of the elastic meat spreads in your mouth as you chew it, and it is full of meat and very satisfying to eat. Snow crab is characterized by its elegant crab flavor and rich roe.
"The flesh is so transparent," "The texture is different from anything I've ever had before," and "It's so crunchy" are some of the comments that visitors to Hakodate make when trying squid sashimi. When you put it in your mouth, the suction cups stick to your tongue, and you can enjoy the "dancing eating" sensation that only a freshly caught ingredient can provide. It can be eaten from early Jun., when the fishing season for Japanese flying squid (Pacific pacific squid) opens in the waters off southern Hokkaido.
Compared to other abalones, the shell is long and flat, almost oblong in shape, and has many wrinkles on the surface. The color of the shell varies from dark green to brownish brown to blackish brown, depending on the type of food. In addition to being eaten raw as sashimi or sushi, abalones are also recommended when grilled.
Even in the Hakodate Morning Market, each store has their own unique flavor. There are even hotels in Hakodate that offer an "all-you-can-eat salmon roe breakfast"! We recommend this to anyone who wants to eat as much salmon roe as they want in Hokkaido.
