Introduction to Hokkaido's National Park
Shiretoko National Park
A World Heritage Site ~ A paradise for wildlife ~
The Shiretoko Peninsula was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2005, and is still home to pristine nature. It is characterized by its rugged and majestic landscapes formed by volcanic activity and drift ice, and its abundant wildlife. In addition to exploring the Shiretoko Five Lakes, we also recommend a whale and killer whale watching cruise in mount Rausu. A cruise along the Shiretoko coast takes you through a series of strangely shaped rocks and waterfalls! You might even encounter wildlife such as brown bears and Yezo deer!

Shikotsu-Toya National Park
Museum of Volcanic Activity
~An active volcano and a calm blue lake~
Shikotsu-Toya National Park is home to the two major caldera lakes, Lake Shikotsu and Toyako, as well as various types of volcanoes and Yamaji, such as Mt. Yotei and Mt. Usu. There is also a lot of volcanic activity, such as hot springs and the hell phenomenon of sulfurous gas spewing out, making it a true "museum of living volcanoes." As a benefit of volcanic activity, there are hot spring tourist destinations that represent Hokkaido, such as Noboribetsu, Toyako, and Jozankei. Lake Shikotsu also boasts the highest water transparency in Japan, according to the Ministry of the Environment's water quality rankings.
