A refreshing drive along the coast known as "Shakotan Blue"

The beautiful Shakotan Sea, which is included in the Niseko Shakotan-Otaru Quasi-National Park and is called "Shakotan Blue", is the only marine park in Hokkaido (*) to be designated as a marine park.
It is dotted with rock formations and boulders, followed by coves and sheer cliffs.
National Highway 229 (partly Route 913), which runs along the coastline of the Shakotan Peninsula, is a truly spectacular road with dark blue sea, cliffs, and strange rocks.
The sea urchin bowl is famous for its Hokkaido and Shakotan Peninsula. The sea of Shakotan, a quasi-national park and a heritage site of Hokkaido, nurtures abundant seaweed, and sea urchins raised on that seaweed exude a special taste.
Every year, the ban on sea urchin fishing is lifted from Jun. to Aug..
