Todowara, Notsuke Peninsula, known as the end of the world

Notsuke Peninsula is 26 kilometers long and is the largest sand spit in Japan. It is located in the east of Hokkaido, halfway between Shiretoko and the Nemuro Peninsula.
It was formed by the accumulation of sediment carried by seawater flowing along the shore, and at its narrowest point, the road is just 50 meters wide! It feels like you're driving on the sea.
In fact, the entire Notsuke Peninsula is experiencing subsidence, and it is said that the land will soon disappear.
"Todowara" is a spot where forests have withered due to seawater erosion, and only Japanese Sakhalin Fir trees remain.
Due to its rich natural environment, it has been registered as a Hokkaido Heritage Site and a Ramsar Convention Site.
