Old Townscape
Shimoninomachi Daishinmachi Traditional Buildings Preservation District

It is a lively old-fashioned street lined with shops related to civic life, such as confectionery shops, stationery stores, and post offices. This area has been designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the national government.

Mimachi Traditional Buildings Preservation District
Irrigation water flows under the eaves of a row of latticed windows, and long-established sake breweries line the streets, including sake breweries with their "sakebayashi" balls made of cedar leaves hanging from their doors.

Morning Market
Morning markets are held all year round. The most famous are the Miyagawa Morning Market held along Miyagawa River and Jinya Market held in front of the Takayama Jinya. Shopping can be fun as you chat with the locals.

Takayama Jinya
Originally it was the secondary residence of the Kanamori clan, the lords of Takayama Castle, but after Hida came under the jurisdiction of the Tokugawa Shogunate, the government of Hida was conducted here. It is the only surviving district magistrate and magistrate's office in the country.

Nakahashi
The red bridge over the Miyagawa River is also a symbol of Hida Takayama. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom around Nakabashi Bridge, and the rows of willow trees create an even more beautiful view.

Hida Takayama Town Museum
It introduces the history of Takayama Castle Town and traditional crafts. The exhibition room is housed in a storehouse belonging to a wealthy merchant from Edo period.

Takayama Festival Float Hall
Actual festival floats that are pulled during the Takayama Festival are on display, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with the Takayama Festival, which is held in the spring and fall.
