It goes without saying that this is one of the "The Great Hot Springs of Japan", along with Arima and Kusatsu. It is also an old hot spring that has been around since Heian period. Locals and tourists can be seen relaxing together in the foot baths, and unexpected conversations can break out. You won't understand the warmth of this famous hot spring until you've tried it, as the water clings to your skin. Not just once, but twice or thrice. This is a famous hot spring that you'll want to visit again and again.

In the depths of Hida, which can be called the gateway to the Northern Alps, five hot springs, "Hirayu Onsen", "Fukuchi Onsen", "Shin Hirayu Onsen", "Tochio Onsen" and "Niibo Onsen", bubble up surrounded by mountains. The highlight of this hot spring is, without a doubt, one of the leading "open-air bath" paradises in the country! It wouldn't be Oku Hida Onsen without open-air baths. It's no exaggeration to say so. Why not spend some relaxing time in this quiet, tranquil hot spring resort in the mountains?

Nigorigo Onsen

It is known as a secluded hot spring resort that springs up at an altitude of 1,800m, one of the highest in Japan.
Although it is located deep in the mountains, two hours from Gero Onsen, this ancient hot spring was discovered in the mid-Edo period, and records show that Accommodation was established there in the Meiji period. The brown water is said to turn reddish brown when exposed to air, and the spring quality is an earth-containing Glauber's salt spring. From the hot spring town you can see the sacred mountain, Mt. Ontake, and on "clear" nights you can enjoy a star-filled sky. This is a hot spring that fans of hidden hot springs will love.
