Itinerary: Sep. 13th (Friday) and 14th (Saturday), 2024
Approximately 800m in diameter! The impressive "Yonshakudama"
This is Asahara Shrine's annual autumn festival, and the festival's distinctive feature is the fireworks offering to the shrine.
In the town of Katakai, a number of ancient traditional events are held from early in the morning, including the "tamaokuri" ceremony, in which fireworks are offered to Asahara Shrine, and the "tsutsuhiki" ceremony, in which prayers are made for the successful launch of the fireworks.
Katakai is famous for being the first place in Japan to launch "3 shaku balls" and "4 shaku balls," and is also known as the birthplace of the 3 shaku ball.
Even today, it is the only fireworks festival in Japan that launches the "midday 3-shaku fireworks," and is known far and wide for its large fireworks.
In 1985, they also succeeded in launching a four-shaku fireworks.
The four-shaku ball weighs about 420 kilograms and blooms into the night sky like a giant flower with a diameter of about 800 meters.
With a history spanning 400 years as the birthplace of the Sanshakudama fireworks, please come and enjoy the Katakai Fireworks, which are dedicated as part of the profound tradition of offering fireworks to shrines.
