It is one of the most famous winter festivals in Hokkaido, which has been held since 1976. The venue uses the riverbed of the Ishikari River, and displays icicles, ice tunnels, ice domes, and other items that have been created over a long period of time by spraying water from the river. At night, the area is lit up and decorated with a mysterious light.

The Chitose Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival features a variety of ice sculptures of all sizes, made by spraying water from Lake Shikotsu, which is famous for having some of the best water quality and transparency in Japan, with sprinklers to freeze it.
During the day, it shines in a natural blue color known as Lake Shikotsu Blue, and at night it is lit up with colorful lights, allowing you to enjoy a fantastical world that changes with the hour.

Beneath the frozen, dignified silvery white earth and twinkling starry sky, countless colorful and warm light sources blend together in a fantastical light and sound show.
