Early Summer "Red Jewels"

Sato Nishiki is known as the king of cherries. It was named after Eisuke Sato, who created it.

Cherries, which are grown mainly in Yamagata Prefecture, are known as "red jewels" because of the harsh growing conditions and low production volumes.
In addition to the commonly heard high-end variety, Sato Nishiki, Yamagata Prefecture cultivates around 30 varieties.
Why not go cherry picking and enjoy the seasonal flavors?
We will explain tips for enjoying cherry picking even more and introduce popular varieties.

Cherry varieties and harvest times

Cherry picking can be experienced in Yamagata Prefecture, which produces 70% of the cherries in Japan, as well as in Aomori, Fukushima, Yamanashi and other prefectures.
In addition to Sato Nishiki, the king of cherries, there are about 25 varieties available in Japan.
Among them, there are differences in harvest times, with some varieties being able to be eaten early, around mid-Jun., and others that are delicious a little later, around mid-Jul..
Check the harvest season for the variety you want to eat, or look for a tour where you can eat your favorite variety!

No matter what variety of cherry you choose, freshness is key.
Cherries are sensitive to dryness and temperature changes, so their quality begins to deteriorate soon after harvest.
Therefore, it is said that cherries are only tasty for 2-3 days after harvest.
If you want to enjoy seasonal cherries, we recommend cherry picking on site!
