Hokkaido highest peak for autumn foliage

Asahidake, the main peak of the Daisetsuzan mountain range, is the highest peak in Hokkaido, boasting an altitude of 2,291 meters.
It is one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan, and is popular with beginner climbers as well, as you can take a ropeway to an altitude of about 1,600 meters.

Sounkyo Gorge is characterized by its columnar jointed valley and the strangely shaped rocks and stones scattered throughout it. In autumn, the autumn leaves painted on the rock folding screens are extremely beautiful and captivating.
At Mt. Kurodake, you can easily take a ride on the ropeway and enjoy an aerial stroll among the autumn leaves.
From the summit to the ropeway station at the foot of the mountain, the leaves change color over the course of about a month starting in early Sep. each year, with rowan, turmeric, and mountain maple trees reaching their peak from mid- to late Sep..
