Season, temperature, clothing and belongings

You can easily enjoy sightseeing on the Alpine Route by simply changing to a variety of vehicles, but if you are going trekking, you will need to make some preparations. Although you can enjoy a casual stroll, it is a 3,000m high plateau, so you should be aware of the weather and dress appropriately for the season.

Spring (Apr., May., Jun.)

From Apr. to Jun., the temperature drops to around minus 5 to 10 degrees, and the hiking trails around Murodo and Midagahara are covered in snow. Waterproof trekking shoes or boots are required. Sunglasses are also a must-have item as the glare from the snow is strong.
*It will be very cold during the "Snow Otani" event, so you will need to dress as if you were in mid-winter.

Useful items: gloves, hand warmers, scarves, woolen hats, neck warmers, sunglasses

Summer (Jul. and Aug.)

The temperature in Jul. and Aug. is around 10 to 20 degrees, making it a comfortable summer resort. Even if it is sunny and hot in the morning, it can suddenly get cold in the afternoon due to gas or evening showers. The sunlight in the mountains is stronger than you might think. It is best to wear clothes that do not expose much skin (and that are breathable).

Useful items: Windbreaker, sunglasses

Autumn (Around Sep. and Oct.)

The autumn foliage season is from Sep. to Oct.. The temperature is around 10 degrees, and it often feels chilly. In Oct., snow may begin to fall around Murodo. Thick long-sleeved wool shirts and fleece clothing are recommended.

Useful items: Windbreaker, sunglasses

Winter (around Nov.)

Temperatures in Nov. often drop below freezing, so be sure to take adequate measures against the cold. The inside of vehicles is heated and warm, but it is very cold as soon as you step outside. Even if you don't Itinerary on going for a walk, you may find yourself walking on snow at dam embankments, so it's a good idea to wear waterproof, non-slip shoes. You can also enjoy skiing in late Nov..

Useful items: gloves, hand warmers, scarves, woolen hats, neck warmers, sunglasses
