The National Diet Building in Nagatacho is the political center of Japan. The current building was constructed in 1936. This symmetrical building is also known as the Stone Museum.

It is the only Western-style palace building in Japan in the neo-baroque style, designed by the court architect Tokuma Katayama, a disciple of the foreign architect Josiah Conder, who designed the Rokumeikan and other buildings. After Prince Yoshihito ascended to the throne, the Togu Palace was treated as a detached palace and renamed Akasaka Rikyu.

Tsukiji Market has been in use for 83 years as one of the largest wholesale markets in Japan. The market closed on Oct. 6, 2018, but the outer market still exists and is bustling with tourists from Japan and abroad. It is packed with over 400 stores, including fresh fish shops, general stores, and restaurants (as of Nov. 2018).

Within the Imperial Palace is Gosho of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress. It is a popular spot for viewing cherry blossom in the spring and autumn leaves in the fall.
