Hot Spring Specialties

Bread made with adzuki beans, a specialty of the Masutomi region
"Hanamame Bread," made with adzuki beans, is a hidden popular item at Masutomi Radium Hot Springs. It is sold as homemade bread in various shops. Hanamame is a specialty of the Masutomi region in northern Yamanashi Prefecture, and is grown at an altitude of about 1,000 meters at the foot of Mount Mizugaki. They are large, beautiful beans with speckled purple and black patterns, and are a popular ingredient in New Year's dishes, steamed rice, and tea snacks within the prefecture. The bread, which contains large adzuki beans, has a perfect match between the dough and the subtle sweetness of the adzuki beans, and is very satisfying to eat.

Hot Springs

One of the hidden hot springs that healed Shingen
There are over 20 hot springs said to be Takeda Shingen's secret hot springs. Mashitomi Radium Hot Springs is also said to be a hidden hot spring that Takeda Shingen discovered during his gold mine development. After he became head of the Takeda clan, Shingen earnestly protected the hot springs in the areas under his control. This hot spring was used as a therapeutic hot springs site for wounded soldiers from the Battle of Kawanakajima and miners working in Koshu Kanayama Mine. Shingen himself seems to have been quite fond of hot springs, and it is believed that he was suffering from tuberculosis and used the hot springs for therapeutic purposes.
