Hot Spring Specialties

The famous Otozure Nama Uiro and egg crackers
Nagato Yumoto Onsen's specialty, Otozure Nama Uiro, is a handmade Uiro that is made with Hokkaido-grown azuki beans and bracken powder, giving it a bouncy texture and a mild sweetness. It comes in two varieties: azuki bean and matcha. And don't forget the chicken egg rice crackers. These rice crackers have a mellow castella flavor and are made with fresh fertilized eggs from chickens raised in the bounty of nature in Nagato, where chicken farming is thriving, and plenty of honey. The simple taste is the secret to their popularity.

Hot Springs

The hot spring where the lord of Hagi also bathed
The hot springs were discovered in 1427 by the head priest of Dainei Taineiji Temple ji Temple, who is said to have received a divine revelation from Sumiyoshi Daimyojin. The hot springs discovered at the time still flow today, and as if to back up the legend, the ownership of the waters belongs to the temple. In the past, the baths were divided into a "Rei-yu" bath for samurai and monks, and a "On-yu" bath for ordinary people, but of course there is no distinction today. During the Edo period, a teahouse called "Seion-tei" was located near the hot springs, and feudal lords would often visit for therapeutic baths.
