Hot Spring Specialties

Water nurtured by the Tateyama mountain range of the Northern Alps
"Tateyama Ichiban" is a delicious Northern Alps water sourced in Tateyama Town, Toyama Prefecture, and sold by Daikanbo Co., Ltd. The snow that has fallen on Mt. Tateyama melts, and the water is slowly filtered through strata including granite. The water is then pumped up from an underground aquifer and bottled. The relatively high calcium content gives the water a mellow flavor, even though it is relatively hard. The mild flavor goes well with tea, coffee, or water.

Hot Springs

Tateyama faith and hot springs as a place of purification
Tateyama faith is a unique faith that unites gods and Buddha. It is said that even those who have committed evil deeds and are destined to go to hell can be reborn in paradise if they make a pilgrimage to Tateyama, see hell, and purify their evil deeds. The area around Shishigahanaiwa near Midagahara is a training ground for ascetic practices, and traces of this can be found at places such as En-no-Gyoja-do and Kobo-do. You can still get a virtual experience of the spirit of Tateyama faith at Oyama Shrine, the center of faith, and at the Harobokan in Tateyama Museum. Tateyama Sanroku Onsen was a popular place of purification for Tateyama faith during the Edo period.
