Tourist Attraction Information

Murododaira is a popular spot for hiking, with Mikurigaike Pond, Tamadono Spring, Jigokudani Valley, and Rindou Pond. The Raichozawa ski resort and campground are also nearby.

Mount Tateyama, home to the special natural monument, the ptarmigan
The special natural monument ptarmigan that inhabits Murodo is a rare bird that can spend the winter in high mountains. The area around Murododaira is home to many of these birds, even in the Chubu Mountains, and they have long been treasured as "messengers of the gods" on the sacred mountain of Tateyama. In early summer, male ptarmigans can be seen on the rocks around Mikurigaike Pond. Videos of ptarmigans can also be seen in the lecture room of the Tateyama Nature Conservation Center.

Hot Springs

Trekking around Mikurigaike Pond
There are many trekking courses along Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, one of which is the Mikurigaike Loop Course, located close to the hot springs. It is a course of about an hour that starts from Murodo Terminal and follows a footpath with few ups and downs. There are many sights to see, such as Japan's oldest mountain hut, Tateyama Murodo, Midorigaike Pond, Chinoike Pond, and Mikurigaike Pond. In summer, the flower fields are beautiful, and from May to Jun., you have a chance to see a Japanese ptarmigan.
