Hot Spring Specialties

A relaxing trip on a Shogawa River sightseeing boat to a hidden hot spring on a cliff
Omaki Onsen is famous as a hidden hot spring located on a cliff in the Shogawa River basin. The only means of transportation to the area is a Shogawa sightseeing boat that departs from Komaki Dam Tour Period, and takes about 30 minutes to arrive, allowing you to enjoy the green lake surface and trees in the valley. A boat trip on the river is especially picturesque, with cherry blossoms swaying in the spring, lush greenery in summer, and beautiful autumn and winter scenery resembling a sumi-e painting. It's also fun to cast a line of fishing leisurely from an inn facing the dam lake.

Hot Springs

A village submerged in a huge dam lake and the legend of the discovery of a hidden hot spring
There used to be a village with a hot spring resort at the bottom of Komaki Dam, and it is said that it began when defeated Taira warriors fleeing the Kurikara Battle in 1183 arrived there and discovered hot springs in the Shogawa valley. In the early Showa period, the village was submerged due to the construction of Komaki Dam. The abundant hot spring water can now be enjoyed at the only hot spring inn remaining on the lake. The dam was designated a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan in 2002, and the lakeside, rich in nature, is perfect for stream fishing for dace and rainbow trout, as well as bird watching.
