一軒宿である山小屋では、素朴な家庭料理が提供される。特にゼンマイなど天然の山菜を使った料理がおいしいと評判。春限定の山菜料理のほか、秋のきのこ汁も楽しめる。名物のイワナの骨酒とともに味わいたい。

河原の湯だまりの野天風呂
祖母谷温泉の上流部には「祖母谷地獄」という源泉地帯がある。そして川のいたるところから湯煙が上がっている。ここの人気が「河原の露天風呂」。河原に湧く源泉温度80度以上の湯を、冷たい川の水と混ぜ、湯だまりを湯船にして浸る、野趣あふれる露天風呂だ。以前は自分で掘って湯船を作ることもできたが、2005年の水害後は禁止となっている。
