Hot Spring Specialties

A rare, pitch black hot spring like ink, even in Japan.
The hot spring owned by the inn "Oidekan" has a rare black hot spring that is pitch black due to the mineral deposits, commonly known as "Sumi no Yu". The water contains a lot of iron, but most iron-containing waters are usually a dark reddish-brown in color. This is why black hot springs are highly prized. Curiously enough, it is said that the black color deepens on rainy days, and because it contains iron, drinking it can be effective for people with anemia. If you soak in the water for a while, black mineral deposits will stick to your body, which is popular, and many people bring back a towel stained black as a memento of their trip.

Hot Springs

A hot spring festival where you can enjoy free hot spring treats
The "Ancient Hot Spring Festival" is an event to give thanks for the blessings of hot springs and pray for an abundant flow of hot springs and everlasting prosperity. After the "sacred water" drawn from the source bath is dedicated to Shiobara Hachimangu Shrine, a "water division procession" of people dressed in kariginu (hunting clothes) and the white robes of shrine maidens parades through the hot spring town, and a "water division ceremony" is held in which the bath guardians divide the sacred water among the six districts of Shiobara Onsenkyo. Furthermore, on the designated day of the Ancient Hot Spring Festival, as a "hot spring giveaway" to give thanks for the blessings of hot springs, Accommodation facilities offer free day-use bathing.
