Hot Spring Specialties

The volume of the sushi makes you feel disheartened
"Gennari sushi" is a local dish from Inatori that is made on celebratory days such as weddings, Shichigosan, and Coming of Age ceremonies. It is said to have been named after the size and quantity of the sushi, which makes people feel "gennari" when they eat it. The basic dish is a set of square sushi topped with five types of toppings, such as red and white oboro made from golden-eyed snapper, red tuna, large boiled shiitake mushrooms, and rolled egg. You can get it at Japanese restaurants, so why not give it a try to see if it makes you feel gennari?

Inatori area, the birthplace of hanging decorations
A custom from the Inatori region that dates back to the late Edo period is "hanging dolls." It is said to have started as a way to display handmade dolls instead of Hina dolls, and on the eldest daughter's first festival, crafts are hung on both sides of the doll stand to pray for good health and good relationships. Nowadays, there are 50 types of crafts, based on peaches (longevity), monkeys (talismans), and triangles (medicine bags and incense bags). Since the Inatori Onsen Ryokan Association took the lead in holding the "hanging dolls festival" as a tourist attraction in 1999, it has become popular throughout the country.
