Hot Spring Specialties

"Kitagawa Aji Sushi" - Delicious and simple
In Kitagawa, horse mackerel is a fish that is familiar to locals as it can be caught steadily throughout the year. "Kitagawa Horse Mackerel Sushi" is a local dish made only with fresh horse mackerel caught off the coast of Kitagawa. The sushi is made into bite-sized pieces without being marinated in vinegar. Condiments that each household has carefully chosen, such as ginger, green onions, and shiso leaves, bring out the deliciousness of the horse mackerel. This can also be enjoyed at restaurants and inns as a "Kitagawa Horse Mackerel Sushi Lunch," with each of the eight participating establishments offering their own unique flavors.

Hot Springs

An open-air bath with a wild, open feel and gentle spring water
Kurone Iwaburo is a popular public mixed-gender open-air bath that springs from the rocks along the coast. Located at sea level on the water's edge, it feels like heaven to soak in the water at eye level with the horizon. Sometimes waves splash into the bath. The hot spring has a gentle, slightly salty spring water, and you can see Izu Oshima right in front of you. The two mixed-gender open-air baths made from natural rocks do not allow swimsuits to be worn, so there is a "women-only time" designated for them. There is also a circular open-air bath for women only.
