肥沃な丘陵地の赤土で良質の竹が育つ田上町は、たけのこも名産。甘味がありアクが少なく、みずみずしい爽やかな風味で、市場では稀少な高級食材として扱われる。湯田上温泉の若女将たちで作る「ゆごや会」では、このたけのこを使った新レシピを開発。「タケノコの味噌漬け」として、旅館の朝食に登場することとなった。シャキシャキした歯応えと深みのある味わいの味噌漬けは、お土産としても商品化された。

温泉のあれこれ

護摩堂山のアジサイは初夏の風物詩
護摩堂山は新津丘陵のほぼ中央に位置し、山頂からは、越後平野やはるか佐渡島、粟島までを望む。「にいがた景勝100選」（※「新潟日報事業社」選定）にも選ばれた景観地で、年間約11万人が訪れる。散策道を歩いて約40分ほどで到着する頂上には、「護摩堂山あじさい園」があり、季節にはピンクや青・紫・白など約3万株の色とりどりのアジサイが咲き誇る。圧倒的な美しさのなか、「護摩堂山あじさいまつり」も開催され、多くの人で賑わう。
