Hot Spring Specialties

The local specialty is bamboo shoots pickled in delicious miso.
Tagami-cho, where high-quality bamboo grows in the red soil of its fertile hills, is also famous for its bamboo shoots. Sweet and light with a fresh, refreshing flavor, they are treated as a rare luxury food in the market. The "Yugoya-kai," a group made up of young female inns at Yudagami Onsen, has developed a new recipe using these bamboo shoots. They are now appearing at the inn's breakfast menu as "bamboo shoots pickled in miso." With a crunchy texture and rich flavor, these miso-pickled bamboo shoots have also been sold as souvenirs.

Hot Springs

The hydrangeas of Mount Gomado are a symbol of early summer
Mount Gomadō is located almost in the center of the Niitsu Hills, and from the summit you can see the Echigo Plains and as far away as Sado Island and Awashima Island. It is a scenic spot that has been selected as one of the "100 Most Scenic Spots in Niigata" (selected by the Niigata Nippo Newspaper Co., Ltd.), and is visited by approximately 110,000 people every year. The summit, which can be reached by walking along a walking path in about 40 minutes, is the "Gomadoyama Hydrangea Garden," where approximately 30,000 colorful hydrangeas bloom in full bloom in season, including pink, blue, purple, and white. Amidst the overwhelming beauty, the "Gomadoyama Hydrangea Festival" is also held, attracting many visitors.
