Hot Springs

Mount Myoko and Myoko Onsen
Myoko Kogen Station is the southern gateway to Myoko Kogen, which is surrounded by Mt. Myoko, also known as the "Echigo Fuji" at an altitude of 2,454 meters. Myoko Onsen is a hot spring town that opens up on the plateau. It opened in 1911 as a branch of Akakura Onsen, and in 1921 succeeded in drawing water from Minami Jigokudani at the foot of Mt. Myoko. It flourished as a pleasure hot spring, with many traditional restaurants and shops. It is close to the station and about 1km from the Myoko Kogen IC on the Joshinetsu Expressway, making it easily accessible. Myoko Onsen is the only place where you can see the entirety of Mt. Myoko with its vast base. It is a convenient hot spring town to use as a base for sightseeing in Myoko.
