The new Yuzawa specialty is the Japanese sweet "Sasayuki"
"Sasayuki" is a new specialty of Echigo Yuzawa, a Japanese confectionery with a familiar taste. It is made by kneading powdered koshihikari rice from Minami-Uonuma in Yuzawa-cho and incorporating bamboo leaves, which are indispensable to Niigata's food culture, into flavorful mochi, folded in half and gently wrapped around bean paste. It is sold exclusively at inns and hotels in the Echigo Yuzawa Onsen area and at Echigo Nakazato Onsen. A cool summer version is also available for a limited time.
