Around Jun., people living around Shiga Kogen flock into the mountains to harvest Nemagaritake bamboo, and bamboo shoot-picking tours are also held for tourists. The most popular dish made with Nemagaritake bamboo is bamboo shoot soup. You can also eat grilled bamboo shoots, seasoned rice, and tempura at hotels and restaurants. During the season, bread containing Nemagaritake bamboo is also sold.

Takamagahara Marsh has a 1.3km long boardwalk called the Seseragi Promenade, which allows visitors to explore the Upper Marsh, Middle Marsh, Lower Marsh, Diamond Marsh, and Inner Marsh. It is a treasure trove of wetland plants, and in May. you can see Asian skunk cabbage and marsh marigolds, while in summer you can enjoy vermilion, giant lilies, cranberries, and Japanese lilies. You can also see char swimming in the Kozako River that runs through the marsh.
