Hot Spring Specialties

The taste of the hot spring eggs you boil yourself is exceptional
In Nozawa's hot spring town, there are several spots, such as the mini hot spring plaza "Ashiyu Yurari," where hot spring visitors can experience making their own hot spring eggs. Simply purchase raw eggs at a store in the hot spring town, open the lid of a gray square box, place the raw eggs in a net, and soak them in the hot spring for the specified time. In addition to eggs, you can also boil corn and other foods. If you boil them yourself and eat them, the taste is sure to be exceptional.

Hot Springs

13 outdoor baths and the bath companion system from the Edo period
In the hot spring town of Nozawa, there are 13 public baths called sotoyu. These facilities are the shared property of the villagers, and have been protected since the Edo period under a system called "Yunakama." The symbol of Nozawa Onsen, Oyu, is dedicated to the Yakushi Triad, while the other 12 baths are dedicated to divine generals, who are regarded as the bath guardians. Each facility is well managed, so be sure to put a small donation in the offering box when you enter. The hot springs are 100% natural and flowing, and touring the sotoyu baths, each with its own unique building shape, spring quality and efficacy, is one of the highlights of Nozawa Onsen.
