This hot spring has flourished as a therapeutic bathhouse since the Edo period, and was the first to be recognized as one of the "100 Best Hot Springs" by the NPO Health and Hot Spring Forum. The water is soft and warms you to the core.

Asatsuyu Kakeyu Market is a place where you can get fresh vegetables. It is held every Sunday from Jun. to Nov., mainly in the hot spring town. There is a wide variety of locally grown seasonal vegetables and fruits, including cucumbers, tomatoes, corn, eggplant, peppers, Moroccan beans, peaches, prunes, grapes, and mushrooms. There are also processed products such as honey, miso, homemade grape juice, apple juice, and local folk arts and crafts such as cloth sandals, bamboo crafts, and pillows.

At Kakeyu Onsen, there is a stamp rally that takes you around the area's famous sites, called "Kakeyu 21 Sightseeing Tour." The course is 13km long and starts at No. 1 Onsen Sojin, then stops at No. 2 Yuzaka Godai Bridge, No. 3 Prefectural Treasure Monjudo, No. 4 Midori Bridge, No. 5 Mannen Bridge, No. 6 Akiba Shrine, No. 7 Tenryu-ji Temple, No. 8 Kakeyu Tenjin, No. 9 Suwa Shrine, and finally No. 21 Onsen Yakushido. There is also a short course that takes you around just the famous sites in the hot spring town in 1-2 hours.
