Highlights

A hot spring resort spreading out at the foot of Mt. Azumino. It has been designated as a national hot spring resort, and the clear, colorless water feels smooth on the skin.

Hot Spring Specialties

Take home pickled wasabi as a souvenir from a famous wasabi producing region
Hotaka is a wasabi-producing region blessed with the pure waters of the Azumino Wasabi Field Spring Water Group, which has been selected as one of the "100 Famous Waters of Japan" (selected by the Environment Agency), and many wasabi shops are dotted around National Route 147, around JR Hotaka Station, and on old roads. Each shop processes and sells wasabi harvested from their own fields using their own unique methods, and the taste varies from shop to shop, so it's fun to try and compare them.

Hot Springs

Hot spring vending machine "Hot Spring Stand"
Next to the Hachimen Daio Footbath in the hot spring resort is a hot spring vending machine called the "Hot Spring Stand." You can buy hot spring water 24 hours a day except on Sundays. The water is drawn from the source in Nakabusa, where the temperature is over 90 degrees Celsius, to Hotaka Onsenkyo, and the temperature at this stand is 55 to 56 degrees. Many locals take the hot spring water home in a 300-liter plastic container loaded onto the back of a light truck and enjoy it in their own bathtubs.
