Two dishes that let you enjoy the flavors of the Minami Sanriku sea
At Hotel Kanyo, a single-family inn where you can sample the fresh seafood of Minami Sanriku, there are two particularly popular dishes. The "Dancing Grilled Abalone" is made by grilling fresh live abalone on a ceramic plate right in front of you. When you bite into a milky white slice, the soft texture and the aroma of the sea spread throughout your mouth. The other dish is the "Whole Boiled Shark Fin." This is an exceptional dish, where Kesennuma shark fin is cooked in a soup made from a variety of ingredients using traditional Chinese techniques.

A tour told by staff from the reconstruction base
Minamisanriku Town suffered devastating damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. The Minamisanriku Hotel Kanyo building itself was hit by the tsunami up to the ceiling of the second floor, but it escaped because it was located on high ground on sturdy bedrock. After the disaster, the hotel quickly became a base for the region's recovery, accepting volunteers and evacuated residents. To ensure that the memory of the disaster is not forgotten, the hotel runs daily bus tours for Accommodation, guided by staff who act as storytellers.
