Hot Springs

Giants from various fields gather in the beautiful villa area of Oiso
Oiso's bathing beach was opened in 1885, and it came into the limelight as a resort area near the capital. In 1887, the first Prime Minister of Japan, Hirobumi Ito, and Aritomo Yamagata built their houses and villas here, and Tokaido Line was opened. Many other Prime Ministers, including Shigenobu Okuma and Shigeru Yoshida, business leaders such as Yanosuke Iwasaki and Takamune Mitsui, Kabuki actors such as Kikugorou Onoe and Kichiemon Nakamura, and cultural figures such as Toson Shimazaki were attracted to the area and made their homes there. In addition, Yataro Iwasaki's granddaughter, Miki Sawada, opened an orphanage called the Elizabeth Saunders Home.
