Highlights

温泉の名物

変わらぬおいしさの箱根温泉饅頭の老舗
小田急線箱根湯本駅の前にある丸嶋本店は創業100余年。お土産として好評の「元祖箱根温泉饅頭」の老舗で、厳選された素材を使い、毎朝店頭で製造している。昔ながらの饅頭は小判形で、黒糖で香ばしい風味のコクのある茶色皮と、シンプルな白い皮の2種類あり、北海道小豆の上品な甘さのこし餡がたっぷりと詰まっている。1個売りにも対応してもらえるが、店の2階にはお茶処があり、できたてふわふわの饅頭で一服することができる。

温泉のあれこれ

歴史上の著名人たちが訪れた箱根の古湯
箱根湯本の「惣湯」は738年に釈浄定坊が発見。湧出地は熊野権現直下にあたり、源頼朝や北条早雲の熊野詣での足洗いの湯となった。鎌倉時代には曽我兄弟も訪れ、阿仏尼の「十六夜日記」、北条家臣の金沢貞将書状にも湯本に関する記述がある。北条早雲が残した早雲寺は北条五代の菩提寺となったが、後に寺に豊臣秀吉が長く陣を構え、同時に温泉としての名声も各地に知れ渡ったという。江戸時代には尾形光琳、安藤広重も訪れている。
