Hot Spring Specialties

Simple and appealing miso rice crackers
The "Kunimi Onsen Miso Senbei" sold at Ishizuka Ryokan in Kunimi Onsen are round and sweet in taste. The miso flavor is not too strong, and they are like simple tile senbei. The crunchy texture is more like a cookie than a senbei. The comforting simplicity is what makes you want to eat them. You can only get them here, so you'll want to buy some to take home as a souvenir.

Hot Springs

The trailhead to Akita Mt. Komagatake, one of the 100 famous flower mountains
Kunimi Onsen is a popular spot for hikers, as it is located on the hiking route to the famous Akita Mt. Komagatake. It takes about two and a half hours to reach the peak. The majestic mountain ranges, which change colour with the seasons and show a beautiful expression every time you visit, as well as Japan's largest colony of dicentra and a large pond, are a feast for the eyes. The summit area is home to hundreds of alpine plants, including cherry blossoms, alpine violets, dicentra and Siberian azalea, and is designated as a national natural monument as the Akita Mt. Komagatake alpine plant zone.
