Hot Spring Specialties

A popular sushi ekiben that revitalizes the region
In celebration of the opening of the Shinkansen Iwate Numamiyauchi Station, a sushi ekiben that revitalized the community appeared in Dec. 2002. Iwate Easy-to-eat pressed sushi using rainbow trout, which is a specialty of Hachimantai City, grown in the underground water of the mountain "Kanazawa Shimizu" over 3~4 years. In addition to white rice, there is also vinegared rice finished with Sanriku "Noda salt" mixed with local walnuts. I want to try it during my trip to Hachimantai.

Hot Springs

One of Japan's 100 most scenic roads
The approximately 27km section connecting Hachimantai Onsen and Toroko Onsen in Akita Prefecture is called the Hachimantai Aspite Line. It is a mountain road that crosses the famous Hachimantai mountain range, where you can see a sea of Aomoritodomatsu trees, Iwate, and colonies of alpine plants. There are walking trails from the parking lot at Mikaeri Pass to the summit of Hachimantai and Hachimantama Pond, making it a tourist hub. From Mikaeri Pass, it connects to the Hachimantai Jukai Line. Even after the road reopens in the spring, snow walls several meters high remain on both sides of the road, allowing you to enjoy the "snow corridor," a Hachimantai tourist attraction.
