Highlights

Located on the Noto Peninsula, this hot spring is said to have been in operation for 1,200 years. The hot spring source is about 80 degrees Celsius and is said to be a sea hot spring, characterized by its rich salt content.

Hot Spring Specialties

Noto's traditional delicacies are gifts from the sea
Noto's proud specialty is "dried kuchiko." It is also called "bachiko" because it resembles a shamisen drumstick. The ovaries of sea cucumbers are salted, tied on a thin rope, and carefully dried one by one by hand into triangles. Lightly grilled and torn apart by hand, the concentrated nutrients of the sea spread in your mouth with each bite. This luxurious sake snack unique to Noto is definitely worth a try.

Hot Springs

The Kaga Domain created the "Wakuura Hot Springs" on the sea
The hot spring source, located in Yuya, Yakushidani, long ago, shifted due to crustal movement, and in the Eisho era, the hot spring was rediscovered as a spring welling up in the sea and was called "Wakuura." It is said that the Noto Hatakeyama clan surrounded the source with stones to draw water, and a retainer of Maeda Toshiie built a stone island measuring 2 ken square. In 1641, by order of the lord of Kaga, Yushima was created, with a hot spring jar surrounded by a water outlet. Even under the control of the Kaga domain, the reputation of the hot springs grew, and the number of people visiting Yushima by boat for hot spring cures increased, and the island eventually expanded. At the end of the Edo period, it became a famous hot spring resort, even visited by nobles from Kyoto.
