Writers who visited Kinosaki Onsen and the Literary Monument
Kinosaki Onsen has been visited by many literary figures from the Edo period to modern times, including Yosano Tekkan and Akiko, Shimazaki Toson, Shiratori Shogo, Tanaka Fuyuji, Arishima Takeo, Saito Mokichi, and Izumi Kyoka. Among them, Shiga Naoya wrote the novel "At Kinosaki" based on his experiences while staying there to recuperate from an injury, and visited the area more than a dozen times in his life. For this reason, he was especially loved by members of the Shirakaba school, who admired Shiga. As a result, 24 literary monuments have been erected at the outdoor baths and in places associated with the baths, and it is interesting to take a literary walk to visit them.
