Tourist Attraction Information

A new local delicacy born in Lake Shikotsu Onsen
Following on from the famous Kokanee salmon dishes of Lake Shikotsu, the new local gourmet dish "Akihime Ontama Rice" is made by mixing rice with flakes made from Kokanee salmon's parent fish, Akihime, and topping it with a soft-boiled egg. It is also topped with a sweet bean paste and sauce that Image Lake Shikotsu. In addition, it is served according to 10 rules, such as using rice from Hokkaido, presenting the rice as Mt. Tarumae, the sweet bean paste and sauce as Lake Shikotsu, and Hokkaido vegetables as a forest on one plate, and using as many local condiments as possible. It is currently available at eight stores.

Experience the fantastic atmosphere of Lake Shikotsu in winter
The Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival is a winter festival held every year at Lake Shikotsu. Ice sculptures of all sizes made by freezing the lake's water line the lakeside. The crystal clear water makes the ice sculptures glow a pale blue during the day, and at night the illumination creates a fantastic atmosphere. There is also a fireworks display, ice weddings held within the venue, and stage events. It is a representative event of Chitose, attracting many tourists from within Hokkaido and abroad.
