Tourist Attraction Information

Shikabe Fishing Port and Hyotan Numa Park are great viewing points for Mt. Komagatake. Dekima Coast, with its cliffs created by the eruption, is also a must-see.

Hot Spring Specialties

Shikabe cod roe is synonymous with delicious cod roe.
Shikabe Town's specialties include seafood caught in Funka Bay and the Pacific Ocean throughout the year. Among these, Shikabe cod roe is famous nationwide, with a reputation for the fine texture and deliciousness of each individual grain. Since 2012, the Shikabe Cod Roe Festival has also been held. Not only is there an all-you-can-eat and direct sales event for raw cod roe and other dishes and rice made with cod roe, but it has also become an event that draws the whole town, with visitors being able to enjoy any day spa in Shikabe Town for 300 yen and Shikabe Geyser Park being open for free.

Hot Springs

A powerful geyser where hot spring water periodically erupts
Shikabe Geyser, discovered by chance in 1924, geysers hot spring water at about 100 degrees from 26 meters underground to more than 15 meters above ground. The amount of water that gushes out is up to 500 liters. Shikabe Geyser Park was developed around the geyser. Within the park, there is a viewing hall where you can get a close-up view of the geyser, and from there you can see Mt. Komagatake and, depending on the weather, Mt. Yotei and Muroran city. There is also a foot bath that uses the geyser hot spring water, from which you can also observe the geyser.
